LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
LEAD Greater Williamsburg
LEAD is a community-immersion program that provides opportunities for recognized and emergent leaders to collaborate on issues of importance to the region.
Participation in LEAD requires a serious commitment of time and energy. The program consists of a welcome reception, class orientation, an overnight two-day retreat, eight day-long sessions once a month addressing topics of community interest and concern. Class topics include:
Familiarization Tour
History, Culture, and Media
Courts and Public Safety
Local Government, Mock City Council and Budget Exercise
General Assembly
Health and Human Services and the Faith-Based Community
Pre-K—12 and Higher Education
Economic Drivers: Business and Military
Environment and Urbanization
The program also includes a class project that will require at least 40-60 additional hours outside of regular class time and a final-day evaluation. There are other optional social event scheduled throughout the year.
Community Leadership Service (CLS)
The Community Leadership Service (CLS) mission is to inspire participants to make a difference through leadership and volunteerism by building sustaining relationships that add value and vibrancy to the greater Williamsburg area via a behind-the-scenes view of area organizations and engagement with key leaders. Our participants are accomplished individuals who are retired from full-time careers and looking to leverage their talents in the Greater Williamsburg area.
Since 2006, a total of 147 CLS Alumni have participated in the biennial program. CLS offers a unique behind-the-scenes view of area organizations through engagement with key leaders. Participants experience nine key areas important to our community, including
